— A simple practice app for Array Mbira learners
So… I made a little app! 🎉
It’s called Array Mbira Guide, and it’s a simple tool for anyone who wants to practice or learn the Array Mbira (or similar kalimba layouts).
💡 What’s in the app?
- Play mode: A horizontally scrollable layout (2 full loops) that resembles the real Array Mbira.

- Learn mode: Highlights for major/minor scales and chords—easy to visualize and practice.

- Real sounds: Recorded directly from a real Array Mbira!
📱 Available on the App Store:

(*Note: The app is currently only in Japanese, but the core features are language-independent. Feel free to give it a try!)
🎵 Why I made this app
Because my mom bought an Array Mbira, and she wanted to practice.
The thing is, it’s a pretty resonant instrument, so practicing at night can be tricky. With an app, you can keep the volume low and still train your fingers and ears.
Also, I thought it’d be nice to include basic scale and chord guides too—so I added that in.
Even though I don’t own the instrument myself, I somehow started memorizing the layout just by building this thing!
That’s it for now!
It’s a small and simple app, but I hope it’s helpful for anyone out there exploring this unique and beautiful instrument.
